A pencil skirt is a beautiful addition to almost any wardrobe. It can be worn on a night out with friends, a hot date and to work. But it is not only the accessories which make this skirt make the day to night transition, fit is very important. I have witnessed in the early mornings of downtown that quite a few women either have no idea what professionalism is or the hookers have changed dress codes.
Because of the tightness of the pencil skirt it has a slit or vent known as a kick-pleat at center back or center front. This opening allows you to be able to walk and function in day to day life. The current trend is to extend this opening to just below the butt cheeks. This trend can be daring and attractive look; exposing a shy hint of leg with every stride.
But a number of women in the downtown area have destroyed a perfectly good-looking skirt suit, by creating a 'peep hole'.
A work kick-pleat is not a sexy side slit. It should never be completely open, unless walking. I have seen a few women completely destroy all professionalism by wearing pencil skirts improperly. It is not always their fault, sometimes the designer sucks or they had meant for the skirt to never be worn in a professional setting. Other women are trying to force their way into skirts which are simply too small. I understand it feels good to buy the smaller size if you can fit into it, but a poor fit makes you look cheap and uneducated. So grow-up and make a true woman choice, born of experience and an understanding of self. Try to only buy with your smarts and not your childish whims. When I see a woman with an open kick-pleat it just says "come and get it". It's just too sleazy.
