Marc Jacobs spring 2010: Fear of the Future

Marc Jacobes doesn't believe that today's youth have any individual expression. It's true that with the availability of packed fashions it is hard to create any unique expression which has not been studied, broken down and then marketed. But how can fashion followers find new self expression when designers keep taking trips back in time? His last season was a trip back to the eighties and he wanted this trip to be to the theatre, but what is our obsession with the past? Are we simply living too long? As a society who's population bubble is aging, are designers afraid of an uncertain future? Making them want to keep turning back to the past to best describe today?

I love fashion because it says soo much without saying and the message can change using the exact same assortment of clothing. But the next time fashion changes, really changes, it will be something to be remembered.
The trends of the Marc Jacob show were ruffles, full skirts, retro satin underwear, fanny packs and large woven bags. I think this large bag trend is a safety feature of our time. The bag which holds anything, just in case.
